The VAMA Petition

AS VENEZUELAN PHYSICIANS RESIDING IN THE UNITED STATES, AS MEMBERS OF THE NON-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION VAMA (VENEZUELAN AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION), WE HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE REPEATED VIOLATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS OCCURRING IN VENEZUELA ON A DAILY BASIS. THESE ACTIONS HAVE BEEN PERPETRATED BY THE CURRENT VENEZUELAN REGIME AGAINST ORDINARY CITIZENS, IN RETALIATION FOR PARTICIPATING IN PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS AFFIRMING DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM.

THESE EVENTS ARE NEGATIVELY AFFECTING THE WELL-BEING AND HEALTH OF THE VENEZUELAN CITIZENRY. THE CURRENT SCARCITY OF FOOD, MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND HEALTHCARE, HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS AND GRAVE CRISIS IN THE COUNTRY AND HAS RESULTED INHUNGER, MALNUTRITION, DISEASE AND DEATH.

AS RESIDENTS AND CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES AND MEMBERS OF VAMA, WE WOULD LIKE TO KINDLY REQUEST YOUR SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE. VAMA IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT INCLUDES MANY VENEZUELAN PHYSICIANS CURRENTLY RESIDING AND PRACTICING IN THIS COUNTRY.  WE HOPE TO ENLIST THE HELP OF SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN ASSISTING US IN SOLVING THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE IN VENEZUELAN.

OUR PROPOSED PLAN OF ACTION INCLUDES:

•       MECHANISMS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO FOOD AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES FOR VENEZUELAN CITIZENS.

•       FORMULATE AND EXECUTE AN ACTION PLAN FOR THE EVENT OF A CATASTROPHE OCCURRING IN VENEZUELA. THIS PLAN WOULD INCLUDE COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN MEMBERS OF VAMA, AMERICAN GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES, AND MEMBERS OF THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IN VENEZUELA. THE GOAL OF SUCH PLAN WOULD BE TO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.

•       EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITY OF PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE IN THE US TO VENEZUELAN CITIZENS WITH COMPLEX MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT CANNOT BE CARED FOR IN VENEZUELA. SUCH CARE COULD BE PROVIDED PRO-BONO BY MEMBERS OF VAMA AFFILIATED TO US HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS, OR THROUGH THE USE OF U.S MEDICAL MILITARY ASSETS SUCH AS THE USNS COMFORT OR USNA MERCY.

WE HEREBY REQUEST AN URGENT FORMAL MEETING IN ORDER TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE WAYS TO COLLABORATE IN ORDER TO HELP THE PEOPLE OF VENEZUELA, MANY OF WHOM FIND THEMSELVES IN GREAT NEED OF ASSISTANCE.
